Read Quietly With Strangers At Silent Reading Party

A silent reading party–talk about an introvert’s dream come true!

Go to a party, but instead of making small talk, you grab a book and read.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports these parties have become all the rage in the Bay Area.

The silent reading party is the brainchild of author Daniel Handler (also known as Lemony Snicket) and Dan Stone, founder and editor of the Oakland literature and music magazine and podcast, Radio Silence.

They held the first one last month at Hotel Rex in San Francisco. It was such a huge hit, they’re doing it again, tomorrow, Tuesday, May 3rd.

The Facebook invitation says, “Bring a book. Read in absolute silence. Food and cocktails will be available.”

Almost 200 people say they are coming. More than 800 say they are interested.

And I love this part–the silent reading party is a fundraiser for The San Francisco Public School Library.

Just a little hint hint on a book you might enjoy taking to such a party–

“Hope Possible: A Network News Anchor’s Thoughts On Losing Her Job, Finding Love, A New Career, And My Dog, Always My Dog.”
