Actress Octavia Spencer Buys Out Theater So Families Can See “Hidden Figures”
Wonderful actress Octavia Spencer knows it’s time to let the kindness shine.
The star of the hit movie, “Hidden Figures” bought out a theater in Los Angeles over MLK weekend so that low income families could come see the film.
Spencer made the announcement on her Instagram account.
Tomorrow I’ve bought the 8pm showing of #hiddenfigures the rave Baldwin hills. If you know a family in need that would like to see our movie but can’t afford it have them come. It’s first come first served. My mom would not have been able to afford to take me and my siblings. So, I’m honoring her and all single parents this #mlkweekend Pass the word. Artwork by @bystellablu
Way to go!
I’ve loved her ever since discovering her in “The Help.”
“Hidden Figures” is still on my list of movies I want to see.
Have you seen it?

If you’re still thinking about it, here is the trailer.
There is a great article in The Atlantic, by the way, about the success of this movie.
Reporter David Sims points out that the movie has already grossed $100 million from a relatively small production budget.
Lessons to learn?
People want to come see diverse stories.
And let’s not forget that Octavia Spencer is a budding superstar who can help carry big winning movies.
