In the spirit of learning to help yourself, arctic seals at the UCSC Pinniped Lab in Santa Cruz, California are learning how they can help scientists collect data on them that will ultimately help save the species.

Animal behaviorist Colleen Reichmuth and animal physiologist Nicole Thometz lead a team scientists and their animal partners to study how ice-dependant seals live. Video by Teresa L. Carey.
