May 30, 2007: What's Your Word?

The wonderful young women at Define Tease clothing have a challenge for all of us. (watch their story.)

"What's your word?"  They want to know.

Erin Darby and Ana Maria Henao are tired of women running round with degrading messages on our tshirts.

I believe they have a point.  Easy to point the finger at Don Imus for using degrading language to describe the Rutgers Women's Basketball team.  But, who are we to talk if we wear shirts that say, "Dumb blonde," or "Bitch?"

Erin and Ana Maria have the answer with their Define Tease.  They've picked 9 words to feature.  You can see them at their website

They are also always on the outlook for great words.

I've picked, "Magnificence."  I love that word.  It's too big for some people.  For me, I believe it resides in all of us.  You either show up claiming yours or you don't.

Everyone I feature on this website is claiming their magnificence.  That's why I love my job so much.  Look at the magnificent people I get to meet each day!

To borrow from my favorite Marianne Williamson quote,

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.                                           Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness that frightens us.                                           We ask ourselves,                                                                                             Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?              Actually, who are you not to be?                                                                     You are a child of God.Your playing small doesn't serve the world.         You were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us.           It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.                                                     And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people the permission to do the same.

Love that.  Sits on my desk and I look at it everyday.

That is magnificent writing. It inspired me as I put together the story of the Define Tease ladies, Erin and Ana Maria, stepping into their magnificence and creating beautiful and inspiring fashion.
