Greetings from New York City. Popped up here from Atlanta to accept a wonderful invitation. Gayle King invited me to come on her XM Satellite Radio Show.
Gayle usually comes with the tagline, "Oprah's Best Friend." I'm sure that's a wonderful honor and friendship. It's just that I think it's limiting. I've been listening to Gayle's show since I got XM at the beginning of the year. It's been so fun and inspiring to get "to know" her as her own magnificent woman.
Of course, you don't get to actually know someone just by listening to them on the radio. It just feels like it. It is true that anyone who listens to The Gayle King Show has been able to discover she's a broadcaster of immense talent, warmth, humor, and curiosity. No wonder Oprah likes her so much!
Now that I've met her in person and spent an hour or so with her in studio, I'm happy to report back to all you other Gayle fans, that all those things you love about her on the radio, come shining through in person, as well.
Those of you who have XM Radio, I hope you'll tune in. The interview airs tomorrow, July 12th. It repeats through the day. The times: 2am, 8am, 2pm, 8pm. Those times are EST. Please do the math for your time zone.
The plan was to hang with Gayle, then catch the 6pm flight back down to Atlanta. Once again, I sailed through airport security, but the easy times stopped there, as my flight was delayed more than 3 hours.
I asked myself, "Why am I sitting around La Guardia Airport, when I have a perfectly fantastic sister standing by in Brooklyn?
I called my sister, Kallan, and said, "Here I come!" It was as if The Universe was saying, "What were you thinking coming up to New York and not fitting in a visit with your sister?!" Message received.
Great to squeeze in the late night visit with my best sister and her best girlfriend, Sara.
This morning, I head back down to Atlanta, Delta Airlines and weather permitting.
