I guess I should've gotten this blog up before Thanksgiving Day. It certainly was in my head as I was on the road for the week.
I've started work on my second documentary, Solar Town USA. That required a trip to Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin, the country's first solar village. These folks figured out incorporating solar into their new buildings 30 years ago!
After all those years of living on an airplane for CNN, I've become sort of a homebody. I was excited about the documentary, but didn't feel like adding a trip. So, I tricked myself. I just pretended I was stopping by Wisconsin on my way to my brother's house in San Diego where the Kagans gathered for Thanksgiving. After all, that's how everyone flies from Atlanta to San Diego, with a stop in Wisconsin, right?
I have to say, it worked incredibly well.
So let me start with that.
I'm thankful for the incredibly easy travel during what can be the hardest travel time of the year.
I'm thankful all the Kagans were together this year, the first Thanksgiving without our dad, Stu. The addition of in-laws, extrended family, and friends made it even nicer.
I'm thankful, my brother, Markagan, is an awesome cook and that he made two turkeys, one in the oven and one deep-fried (my fave.) See below. My brother is the one smiling proud. The turkey, not as happy, but boy—delish!

I'm thankful I didn't burn the marshmallows on the sweet potatoes, something my mother insists I do every year. Notice her careful supervision.

I'm thankful for this new chapter of my career that allows me to take off the holidays that I choose. In the news world, you have to win a lottery to get holidays off.
I'm thankful for all of you who share my passion for inspiring news and stop by on a regular basis.
I'm thankful for all the awesome people I get to meet and interview on a daily basis.
On that note, I'm thankful for the week away, but I'm also thankful to be back at it this morning. A whole new batch of inspiring people to get to. I'm so excited to bring their stories to you.
And a shout out to Mother Nature--I'm thankful for the rain currently falling here in Atlanta. Boy, do we need it!
