Just wondering anybody know anybody who is excited about a big party on New Year's Eve?
I know they exist because you turn on your TV and see them jam packed into places like New York's Time Square or here in Atlanta, they gather downtown to watch The Giant Peach Drop. (I kid you not.)
I mean, I've seen them for myself. I think it was 5 years ago, I had the incredible opportunity to interview Christopher Reeve and his wife Dana. The catch was it was at a hotel in Times Square at 5pm on New Year's Eve. Even at that hour, it was a sea of humanity crush of people that I had to make my way through. Worth it to interview Christopher Reeve, certainly not to party in the new year. So, I know those people are out there. I just don't think I know any of them.
I should say that for a long time I did have on my "List of Things I Want To Do" was put on the big party dress and go to a fancy New Year's Eve Party. I got to do that a couple years ago. Glad I did. Now, I can safely say it's off the list.
So, this will be a quiet New Year's Eve. As I did my unofficial research, I found out I'm not alone. "It's amateur night. I want to be home." "Staying home watching movies with the family." "Going to church." Were the kind of responses I got to my, "Whatcha doing New Year's Eve?" question.
Let me just say, I'm okay with this. I just wonder who all those people are who are filling up places like Times Square. 'Cause I don't know any of them.
I should also add that as blasé' as I am about New Year's Eve, I'm that super excited about the New Year. It's like the Eve is the wrapping paper and the actual year is the incredible gift underneath.
Of course it starts with New Year's Day. Now, we're talking! There's the traditional long run with friends. Nothing like the extra miles to start cleansing all the holiday junk residue from the inside of my arteries.
There's also the Rose Parade, the world's best parade ever! If you ever have a chance to go, you absolutely must! If not, be sure to catch it on TV.
As for the year itself, I'm looking forward to another 52 weeks of interviewing the most incredible and inspiring people. Well, maybe I should make it 50. With the launch of the new company, I didn't do such a good job at the vacation thang in 2007. Good idea to improve that in 2008.
I'm looking forward to publication of my first book, "What's Possible! 50 People Who Dared to Dream and Make a Difference." That hits bookstores on April 8th. My next documentary, Solartown USA should come out about the same time.
There will be incredible opportunities to grow personally, as well. I plan on following my friend, Marianne Williamson, as she leads "A Course in Miracles" on Oprah XM Satellite Radio and Oprah.com.
To all of you, I wish you a happy and healthy year. A year of love, of growth, of faith, and a year of showing yourself and the world what is truly possible. And I wish you wonderful people in your life who believe the same.
Now, those are people that I know.
