So there you are watching the news, reading something online, or listening to the radio and you hear about something happening in the world that makes you very upset.
"Someone should do something about that," you might say to yourself, never thinking that someone could or should be you. After all, who are you? Just one person, no experience in changing the world.
Scott Fifer would like to re-educate you. He's the man featured in today's story. He was you. Uninvolved, uninformed, and certainly unprepared. And yet. And yet.
It started with his watching one movie, "Hotel Rwanda." And wondering how he was so unaware when the Rwandan genocide took place in the '90's.
Then, Scott did some research. Traveled to Africa. Fast forward to now when he's leading efforts to build a cutting edge orphanage in Tanzania. He doesn't intend to stop there. No, Scott's vision is for this one orphanage to be the model for orphanages around the world. An environmentally friendly center where kids will not just live but thrive.
Yes, it's possible, this one man will change the lives of orphans all around the globe.
No one chuckles at the thought more than he does. He figures he would've been voted, "Least Likely To Be Taking On This Task.
"I don't know anything about raising money," he told me. "A few years ago I would've said that's not my thing. I don't like to ask people for money and I know nothing about running a charity. This is all stuff that I've learned since. It is amazing what one person can do."
And that's the point. Scott wants us to know he's not special. In reality, we all are, if we choose to be.
"Anybody could do what I'm doing. I really do believe that. If you just have the passion. I've just been learning as I go along."
And Scott, we learn from you. Thanks for the lesson in "What's Possible!"
