Astronaut Jessica Meir Celebrates The First Night of Hanukkah From Space

Astronaut Jessica Meir shares Hanukkah and so much more from the International Space Station

Astronaut Jessica Meir has found a way to take the celebration of the first night of Hanukkah to a whole other level.

She shared a photo of her wearing a fun pair of Hanukkah-themed socks from space.

The Jerusalem Post shares that Meir is the daughter of an Israeli doctor who moved to Sweden and later to the US. She joined the ISS crew in September. Two weeks later, she participated in the first all-female spacewalk.

You might want to consider following her Twitter feed. While so much of Twitter is filled with rancor and political hate, Meir shares heartwarming photos from her space journey that brings a personal touch.

You can also follow her on Instagram.

According to Meir’s official NASA biography, she is quite the rock star.

NASA says, “Jessica U. Meir was selected by NASA in 2013. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Brown University, a Master of Science in Space Studies from the International Space University, and a Doctorate in Marine Biology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UCSD).

From 2000 to 2003, Dr. Meir worked for Lockheed Martin’s Human Research Facility, supporting human physiology research. During this time, she also participated in research flights on NASA’s reduced gravity aircraft and served as an aquanaut in an underwater habitat for NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations (NEEMO).  She is currently working onboard the International Space Station on her first spaceflight as part of Expedition 61 and 62.”
