Brewery Debuts Six-Pack Rings That Turn Into Turtle Food Instead Of Endangering Them

Saltwater Brewery debuts a six-pack ring that is edible instead of plastic and deadly. Better news for sea turtles.

Brilliant idea turns six-pack rings into sea turtle’s friend instead of foe

Six-pack rings started with such a simple mission–to keep six cans of a beverage together.

I seriously doubt whomever invented the plastic version had any sinister motives involved.

Yet, as the world’s oceans have become overrun with plastic and garbage, those simple rings have become a serious hazard to sea life.

Now, a brewery in Florida has invested in coming up with a better way.

Nola.com reports Saltwater Brewery worked with a start up called E6PR to come up with a six-pack ring that either dissolves in water or turns into food that sea life like turtles can eat.

The six-pack rings are meant to eventually come apart in water and become food. And meanwhile they do no harm to sea life.

The rings are made of wheat and barley. Craftbeer.com reports the rings are 100 percent biodegradable, compostable and plastic-free.

Saltwater Brewery has been working on the concept for a few years. Customers are starting to see them on stores in South Florida.

Chris Gove is the co-founder and president of the brewery. He tells CraftBeer.com, “Together, we can all be advocates for a clean and safe environment. Our goal is to transition all of the packaging in our facility to this six-pack ring alternative that goes beyond recycling and strives to achieve zero waste.”

Would this make you more likely to buy this beer or another product that has gone to extra effort to clean up the world? Please share in Comments section below.
