Celebrity Chef Offers Job To Lunch Lady Fired For Giving Food To Student Who Couldn’t Pay
Lunch lady Bonnie Kimball says she was fired for serving up kindness.
New Hampshire lunch lady Bonnie Kimball says she was fired for giving a break to a high school student who a bridge.
Who needed to eat.
She says in March a supervisor at Mascoma Valley Regional High School in Manchester, New Hampshire saw her let a student take $8 of food from the cafeteria without paying.
The student told her he didn’t have any money with him that day.
Kimball told him to get money from his mom and bring it the next day.
The student did just that.
Kimball didn’t give it another thought.
Until the district manager of the company that runs the cafeteria told her what she did was actually stealing and fired her.
Kimball spoke out, gained national attention, and the company, Fresh Picks offered her her job back.
Kimball doesn’t think that’s necessarily a good idea.
Along comes celebrity chef Jose Andres.
There’s a good chance you’ve heard of him. He’s done incredible work helping to feed the people of Puerto Rico following the devastation of Hurricane Maria.
He tweeted a story about Kimball and wrote, “The hero is Bonnie Kimball! If she needs a job we have openings at @thinkfoodgroup if you know her, let her know!”
