CNN’s Anderson Cooper Becomes A Dad For First Time

Anderson Cooper introduces his son, Wyatt to the world
Anderson Cooper has announced he is a new dad!
My former CNN colleague made the wonderful announcement live on his show.
Anderson is new to fatherhood at the age of 52.
He shared pictures of his son, Wyatt, who was born Monday.
And he shared his son’s birth story, saying his son was born by surrogate, a woman he expressed huge appreciation for.

It has been a huge year of challenges for Anderson. His mother, Gloria Vanderbilt died last June.
He has continued to report the huge political story that has engulfed the US.
And now, of course, the coronavirus story and all it’s complications and implications.

“It has been a difficult time in all of our lives, and there are certainly many hard days ahead,” Anderson began his introduction to his big announcement.
It is, I think, especially important in these times of trouble to try to hold on to moments of joy and moments of happiness. Even as we mourn the loss of loved ones, we are also blessed with new life and new love.”
‘Monday, I became a father. I never said that out loud before.’
Anderson Cooper, new dad
What’s in a name?

Wyatt Morgan Cooper weighed in at 7 pounds 2 ounces.
Anderson named his son after his late father, Wyatt.
He shared that his son’s middle name, “Morgan” is a family name on his mother’s side. He also discovered it was among a list of names his parents were considering when they were naming him more than 50 years ago.
More than a dream come true
This truly sounds like something bigger than a dream come true.
“As a gay kid, I never thought it would be possible to have a child, and I am so grateful for all those who have paved the way, and for the doctors and nurses and everyone involved in my son’s birth.”
Feeling his family’s presence
He acknowledged his mom, dad and brother, all of whom have passed.
Happy to know that their love is alive in me and in Wyatt… and that our family continues. New life and new love.”
