Dishwasher Is Made A Partner In One Of World’s Greatest Restaurants

Ali Sonko, dishwasher at Noma, in The Netherlands has been named a partner in one of the best restaurants in the world.

It takes a lot of jobs to make a great restaurant work: chef, server, hostess, and yes, dishwasher.

This is what they know at Noma, named one of the best restaurants in the world.

Ali Sonko has worked at Noma in Copenhagen, Denmark, since it opened in 2003.

He emigrated from the West African nation of Gambia.

Noma has done so well that it is in the process of building a bigger restaurant.

As the business makes the transition, Chef/Owner Reni Redzepi, announced he was taking on new partners.

The Washington Post reports that will include Sonko.

Unlike what you might find in an American restaurant, the dishwasher position, and especially Sonko is given much respect.

He is not only is “one of the top-paid people in the entire kitchen,” Redzepi tells the Post, but “holds as much respect as the best head chef or sous chef.” Because of his engaging personality, his work ethic and his dedication to doing the job right, Sonko has endeared himself to his colleagues. “People just respond to that tremendously,” Redzepi says. “It doesn’t matter what you do.”
