Homeless Dog Becomes Certified Narcotics K9 With Mind-Blowing Talents
Sheriff deputies discover homeless dog has rare talent for narcotics K9 work

That’s Narcotics K9 Triton to you, thank you very much.
A much deserved rank and position.
The Darien News reports officials in Darien, Georgia got complaints about a homeless person living in a storage room in a city park.
Instead of a person they discovered a skittish dog who had been deprived of food, water, and attention living locked up in squalid conditions.
Sheriff’s deputy Cody Davis was called in to investigate possible animal cruelty charges. Meanwhile, animal control officers were called to come get the dog.
But while they were waiting for animal control to arrive, something happened that changed this dog’s life forever.
Deputy Davis told the Darien News, “”I felt bad for the dog, so I started playing catch with the dog and he started bringing back a piece of bark so fast that I was getting exhausted. So, I acted like I threw something in some tall grass and the dog began searching for it with his nose. That’s one of the identifying factors for a police dog, when they continue searching no matter what you taunt them with. About 35 minutes goes by and he is still searching for it. So, I threw it back in the grass and let him find it. He brought it back to me. Then I tried something else. I tried a pine cone. He began searching and was really obsessive.”
When no one showed up to claim the dog, Davis called in another officer who has decades of experience working with police K9s. He wanted to know if he saw the same potential in this hard luck dog.
Davis explained, “Dogs have two kinds of drive. You have a hunt and prey drive. It is hard to find a dog with hunt and prey drive. A lot of labs have either hunt or prey drive. It is one in a million for a dog to have both. It is unheard of, and when you find it, that is almost like you have found a piece of gold.”
The pup’s name is now, “Triton.” The police force adopted him and sent him off to narcotics detective training.
On March 20, Triton and Davis went to be tested for national certification as a narcotics police dog. Triton tested 100 percent.
Triton is certified to identify MDMA (Ecstasy or Molly), cocaine, heroin, marijuana and methamphetamine.
Now, Triton is on the police force of the McIntosh County Office of the Sheriff.
Triton goes from homeless dog in squalid conditions to becoming top notch narcotics K9 in Darien, Georgia.
When he’s not at work, Triton gets to live and be loved at home with the Davis family.
