NBC News Correspondent Reunites With Young Son After 49 Days and Quarantine

NBC News Correspondent Janis Mackey Frayer is a kickass reporter and an even better mom.

NBC News correspondent Janis Mackey Frayer has experienced one of the sweetest hugs of her life.

She is based in Beijing, China and has been traveling non-stop to cover the spread of coronavirus.

When she finally did make it back home, she had to be in self-quarantine for 14-days because she’d been reporting from Wuhan.

Frayer shares sweetest reunion on TODAY show.

Frayer came on the TODAY show Thursday to share the moment she was finally able to be back with her husband and son.

She talked about how hard it is to explain this all to her six-year-old son.

He understands more than some of the wisest adults.

“He said to me: ‘You know, mommy, that was a lot of days that you were away.’

“He said to me: ‘You know, mommy, that was a lot of days that you were away.’ I said, ‘Yeah, I know.’ And he goes: ‘Let’s not do that again, OK?’”

Frayer says she agreed to that restriction.

Frayer beautifully documented what the past couple of months have like for her on the road and the sacrifices she and her family have made to bring this story to the rest of the world.

Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb and Janis Mackey Frayer share a very real working mom moment talking about being reunited with her family after 49 days away covering the coronavirus.

When she was debriefing with anchors Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb after the piece ran, it was like three moms bonding over the sacrifices working moms around the world make.

Here’s to Frayer.

To all the journalists and their families.

And to all the moms who make it up everyday, especially in these quickly changing and challenging times.
