Sweet Payback For Inmates On Work Crew Who Saved Guard’s Life After Heart Attack

Six inmates in Polk County, Georgia will have their sentences reduced after they helped save the life of a deputy who collapsed while guarding them on work crew.

A group of inmates on a work crew in Georgia saw an incredible opportunity appear as they cleaned up a cemetery in Polk County.

The lone guard who was supervising them fell over with a heart attack.

You might think it was there opportunity to escape.

After all, there was just them, the fallen guard and the open road.

Instead, 11Alive.com says these six inmates banded together to save the man’s life.

Instead of taking off or doing further harm to the unidentified officer, they took off his bullet proof vest and his gun belt and immediately started doing CPR.

Then, they used his cell phone to call 911.

Sounds like these men saved the guard’s life simply because it was the right thing to do.

How extra sweet that they will all be getting an unexpected payback.

Polk County Sheriff Johnny Moats says each man’s sentence is being reduced by 25% in exchange for their good deed.

He told WKYC “Anytime we have a trustee or inmate crew, that goes beyond normal duties, we cut them some extra time off,” Moats said.

The inmates are being praised for their heroics and their split-second reactions, and the deputy said they deserve it all.

“That moment when they’re out, they’re not really inmates to you,” the deputy said. “They’re just a group of guys and you’re out. You try to be more like friends and in my case, it just worked out for the better.”
