The Math Teacher Thought Fatherhood Didn’t Add Up For Him And The Special Student Who Showed Him Formula For True Love

Math teacher Finn Lanning thought fatherhood didn't add up for him.

Math teacher Finn Lanning knew fatherhood wasn’t for him

The great thing for math teacher Finn Lanning is numbers.

Add them up and you get a certain result.

Lanning was sure fatherhood wasn’t for him.

It’s not that he doesn’t like kids.

After all, he’s with them all day long.

Which is why he doubted he would have anything left in his tank at the end of the day to go home to a kid.

One kid changes everything

But when 13-year-old Damien told him some shocking news, Mr. Lanning knew instantly he had to act.

His story.

Their story.

Makes for a beautiful example of something I love.

When he knew things had to change

Lanning told KDVR, “He spent, at that point, three or four months living in the hospital waiting for a placement. And over that time, I started out going in to give him his work and just hang out with him a little bit, keep him caught up in the classroom. And as I learned more about his story and what he was facing and what his needs were and why they weren’t being met, it just became really hard for me to look the other way.”
