The Two Men Arrested In Philadelphia Starbucks Settle With City For $1 Each
The two young men arrested in a Philadelphia Starbucks last month have reached an incredible and inspiring settlement with the city.
Rashon Nelson and Dante Robinson made national news when they were taken into custody for sitting in the Starbucks store without ordering anything while they waited to meet a colleague.
Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson being led away in handcuffs April 12, and charged with trespassing in a Philadelphia Starbucks, causing national outrage.
Starbucks CEO flew to Philadelphia to apologize to the men in person.
Philadelphia Police Commissioner Richard Ross has also apologized for how his officers handled the situation.
And now, the settlement.
It’s big.
Just not for the two men.
Nelson and Robinson will receive $1 each.
That’s right a single dollar for each of them.
The twist?
The city promises to spend $200,000 to set up an entrepreneur program for high school students.
Robinson told the Associated Press, “We thought long and hard about it and we feel like this is the best way to see that change that we want to see.”
Nelson said he considers the incident a case of being at “the wrong place at the right time because of the outcome that can come out of it.”
