Your Home Improvement Project Can Earn You Frequent Flyer Miles

You’re finally getting around to that home improvement project–new roof, gutting a bathroom, new furniture.

Your house is going to look so much better, but you hate spending that money. Even if you’ve already found the improvement you want from Architectural Fibreglass Mouldings, pulling the trigger can be difficult when there’s so much money involved.

There goes any travel budget.

Right?

What if that money you’re spending on your house could earn you miles toward free travel, even free luxury travel?

That’s how things work around here with Mad Scientist Miles Husband.

We finally are getting around to having our house painted.

MSMH came up with a way for us to earn 50,000 airline miles in the process.

Three speeds to this story.

Maybe, we just crack you up and you want to live vicariously.

Have a look.

Here are the steps for you:

-You need a good credit score of at least in the neighborhood of low 700’s. And of course, this game is only worthwhile if you are someone who carries no credit card debt and pays your balance off every month.

-Apply for a new credit card that will charge you no fee for the first year and promises a large bonus when you meet the minimum spend.

-We chose the Citi Thank You Premier card. Mad Scientist Miles Husband applied both of us for the card, giving us the chance to double up on miles.

We're using the Citi Thank You Premier card to turn our home improvement project into miles for free luxury travel.

-Pick a contractor or painter who will allow you to pay with a credit card without charging you any additional fees.

-Sounds like a lot, but around here, it’s less of a heavy lift than agreeing on what color to paint our house. When you get married, Husband gets a vote, apparently. Who knew?

-Start planning the trip where you want to burn all those miles coming to you courtesy of your house.

Are you a miles enthusiast on steroids who wants to take it to even the next level?

-Ask your contractor if you can purchase the supplies.

-Go portal shopping on sites like CashBackMonitor.com. Portal shopping is a whole other world that is explained really well in this post.

-Portal shopping allows you to take a single dollar and multiply it into many miles simply with a few clicks to get to a store’s website.

All this makes it a little easier to let go those precious dollars you’re spending on your house. Soon, you’ll be locking the front door and cashing in those miles for an amazing vacation.
