Husband Makes 50,000 Airline Miles Just By Taking Me To Lunch

Welcome to my world where Mad Scientist Miles Husband figures out a way to earn airline miles without flying.

It’s kind of like living with a crazy genius.

Sunday, he invites me for a midday date. I thought it was about picking out new colors to paint our house and getting some lunch.

We’re just a block away from our house when he announces, “We’re going to earn 50,000 miles just by going to lunch!” (insert giddy, delighted with himself giggle.)

More than four years into this miles chasing game, I have a lot of his tricks figured out. This time he had me stumped.

So I had to ask, “Alright, Husband, how are we going to do that?”

After delicious lunch at The General Muir, I made him sit down to explain to the rest of the world what he came up with this time.

So, to review for brains like mine that run slower than that of the Mad Scientist Miles Husband.

He had us apply for the Alaska Airlines Visa Signature Card for each of our businesses.

The accounts give you an automatic 25,000 miles with the first penny you spend. Since our new cards arrived this week, we took them out for their first spend.

Yes, we “split” the check.

Kinda weird to go Dutch after years of being single.

It’s not really Dutch since our co-mingled funds pay all the credit card bills, but still!

We actually now have 100,000 Alaska Airlines miles, since he applied us both for personal cards in the same program, as well. In MSMH’s world, it’s all about maximizing, getting as many credit cards from the same hard pull on your credit.

The personal cards automatically give you 25,000. You don’t even have to spend a penny.

Even though we don’t live in Alaska, these Airlines transfer to some of the top luxury airlines in the world like Cathay Pacific and Emirates.

Trust me, you haven’t truly flown First Class until you’ve been on one of these airlines.

We got a big taste when we flew around the world earlier this year on Etihad Airways.

We will probably use these miles to fly through Dubai and onto Asia, Australia or Africa.

Those tickets will probably $26,000 per person. But 180,000 miles.

So just by going to lunch today we are more than a quarter of the way there.

Oh, and in case you are wondering, yes, we did settle on a new paint color for the house.

And yes, MSMH has figured out a way for us to get thousands of airline miles as we pay the painter, as well.

That will have to be a post for another day.
