America fell in love with Olympic swimmer Simone Manuel Thursday night when she tied for the gold medal in the 100-meter freestyle. Her time of 52.70 tied her with 16-year-old Canadian Penny Oleksiak, the pair sharing a new Olympic record and both receiving a gold medal. That makes her the first African American woman to win a gold medal in an individual swimming event. She clearly was excited and overtaken with emotion as her accomplishment sunk in (no pun intended.)

Talk about the best idea for a high school cross country workout ever! Students from St. Joseph’s High School in Santa Maria, CA took shelter dogs out for their morning run. The idea is the brainchild of Coach Luis Escobar. Coach Escobar explained on Facebook, “Each team member was assigned a dog and we went out for a couple miles around the shelter. I am not sure who was more excited and having the most fun…the dogs or the kids.”

Sara Putman’s life is full of surprises these days, beginning with unexpectedly winning custody of her 7-month old granddaughter, Isabella.
